CrossFit Topluluğundan Greg Glassman'a Tepki

CrossFit Topluluğundan Greg Glassman’a Tepki.

Institute for Health Metrics and Education’ın bir tweetine yanıt verdi. Ancak bu verdiği yanıt, insanları yaşanılan durum hakkında daha iyi hissettirmek yerine çok daha öfkeli bir hale getirdi.

Greg’in bu duyarsız tweet’i birçok kişiyi rahatsız etti. CrossFit’in önde gelen yıldızlarından bazıları bu yoruma karşı çıktı.

Birçok büyük sporcu, Greg’in herkes adına konuşamayacağını söyleyerek sosyal medya hesaplarından açıklama yaptılar.

Chandler Smith, Noah Ohlsen gibi sporcular, Games’te büyük değişiklikler olmadıkça rekabet etmeyeceklerini söyledi.

Until changes to @CrossFit are made, I will not be participating in the 2020 Games. I have yet to speak on anything going on for fear of retribution and must remain apolitical due to the nature of my job. This decision puts me in a very vulnerable position with both work and my desired future career as a @CrossFitGames athlete. However, I do not believe choosing to avoid participation in this years event is a violation of duties: to my job, to the sport, or to my ethics. It is my hope that others join me in applying pressure to HQ in order to improve the organization we love and make it better going forward. “I can find the joy only if I do my work in the best way possible to me. But the best is a matter of standards—and I set my own standards. I inherit nothing. I stand at the end of no tradition. I may, perhaps, stand at the beginning of one.”

Rogue does not support the latest statements made by the CrossFit CEO, Greg Glassman. His comments are unacceptable under all conditions. The community is bigger than one person. The movement is stronger than one person. Noone should be expected to tolerate anything that keeps us from moving forward as one. Effective Immediately: 1.0  Rogue Invitational will remove the CrossFit Logo from the 2020 event. We will only allow discussion of sanctioning with real discussion on the future 2.0  Rogue will work with the CrossFit Games leadership to determine the best path forward. We will fulfill the 2020 season for the athletes and the community. The future is dependent on the direction and leadership within CrossFit HQ.  Rogue has been the equipment provider since 2010 and we believe it is part of our DNA.  We hope there is a path forward. We stand behind the community.

My participation in the 2020 @crossfitgames will be contingent upon major changes being made. ⁣ ⁣ I LOVE competing, I LOVE training, I LOVE being able to challenge myself and become better from it. ⁣ ⁣ I also LOVE people.⁣ ⁣ This is probably the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. It’s been weighing on me for days. I’ve consulted many of my closest supporters. All of that said, I’ve decided that I cannot, in good conscience, compete during this time for a company that hasn’t shown themselves to have values that I align with. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve been talking a lot about this movement and my strong desire to stand up and fight for equality. Right now, I’m taking action. The repercussions of this could be huge. I’ve weighed them and my belief in this is stronger than their potential outcomes.

We Are The Community

I wanted to start by saying that I am incredibly saddened, disappointed and frustrated with the actions and words of Crossfit HQ and in particular Greg Glassman. I’m deeply apologetic from the bottom of my heart to all the people who have had to witness this ignorance and the pain it causes. A lack of acknowledgement and empathy for those who are fighting for basic human rights and equality is simply inexcusable and it’s behaviour that we cannot stand for. It has made both Shane and I incredibly ashamed to be a part of an organisation that we have dedicated so much of ourselves to. If it has us angered and disappointed like we are, we couldn’t even begin to imagine how these words and actions affect the extremely diverse global community of crossfitters and supporters who have all dedicated so much time, money and passion to the sport. But this is much bigger than the sport. For those who continue to be dismissive of inequality, you must understand that this is a truly GLOBAL issue and we NO longer can sit idle and do or say nothing. It’s on ALL of us to keep fighting the cause globally until systemic racism and the inhumane treatment of black communities around the globe no longer exists. I said earlier that this issue is much bigger than sport, yet sport and the functional fitness space has a really important part to play. Sport and fitness bring us together and unite us in such a powerful and profound way. I want my platform to drive positivity, unity and the overall message that no matter your skin colour or cultural background, we should all inspire one another to be the best versions of themselves. I want my platform to reflect the values and beliefs of the community I feel most comfortable in, a community that raises up those around them and gives everybody their own individual opportunity to be a champion. My future with Crossfit is unclear and depends on the direction of HQ. I will continue to stand against ignorance and stand alongside those who fight abuse, hatred and racism.

I’m not really sure how to start this. Loyalty is and always has been one of the values I hold strong to and have been anchored in throughout my life. My personal definition of loyalty takes into account and considers imperfection, making mistakes, asking forgiveness, and even showing grace to others who can never seem to get it right. However, my definition of loyalty does have firm boundaries. CrossFit has been something I’ve felt loyalty towards over the past 10 years. While I’ve struggled with some decisions made by CFHQ over the last couple of years and what I’ve felt like have personally alienated some of the people who sacrificed and helped grow its brand. That is nothing compared to what has happened the last couple of days and has made it impossible to stay loyal to leadership who make callous statements that alienate and divide in a time when unity is needed. When I really sit and reflect it hasn’t been CFHQ that I have been loyal to, but the community that supports inclusivity, fitness for all, and health. We will continue to be a part of that community but can no longer be loyal to someone or something that is so far from my own values. While I’m considering what our next steps are we cannot and will not stand with these comments or beliefs.

First: CrossFit is a community, it’s not just a brand or a competition for elite athletes. It has brought countless people together and changed lives. As a community our collective voice has been that of health and wellness and inclusion of all age, race, sex and ability. Our community STILL stands for that. The voice of one person will not change that.⁣ ⁣ Second: For years, I thought that the best way I could facilitate “change” was to just control my own actions and how I conducted myself. But now I understand that my lack of actions taken didn’t help us move forward as a country at all. NOW, I am taking action, speaking out, listening and truly ready to actively be a part of change and experience it instead of just watching it happen. ⁣ ⁣ I do not pretend to have all the right words or answers. I do, however, believe in leading by example, for me that is the best way to help change ❤️’s and minds. Don’t expect someone to care about something just because YOU want them to, THEY have to want it and truly believe it in order to make a difference, and that can start with a simple and honest conversation. ⁣ ⁣ I am in no way perfect, and I realize that I have a lot of learning to do, and I choose to stand beside those who believe that everyone is seen as important and worthy of respect, love and opportunity.⁣ ⁣
